ZINAK Epoxy Zinc Phosphate Primer
Technical Data Sheet
Product Description: ZINAK Epoxy Zinc Phosphate Primer is two component, polyamide cured, epoxy primer with Zinc Phosphate pigment. The fast drying and handling properties, together with extended over coatability, make this an excellent primer for factory application prior to full system application on site. ZINAK Epoxy Zinc Phosphate Primer provides good abrasion resistance which minimizes mechanical damage in transit between the factory and site.
Recommended Usage: ZINAK Epoxy Zinc Phosphate Primer is recommended for use on properly prepared surfaces in both new construction situations and as an industrial maintenance primer for a wide range of anti-corrosive coatings systems for use in the offshore, petrochemical, chemical, pulp and paper and bridge industries.

** Actual covering capacity may vary depending upon the surface condition, temperature, wind velocity, application skill, surface roughness, and surface porosity.
Surface Preparation: Remove oil and grease etc. thoroughly with suitable detergent. Remove salts and other contaminants by high pressure fresh water cleaning. Clean damaged areas thoroughly by power tool cleaning or by abrasive blasting. Improved surface preparation will improve the performance of the product.
Mixing Instructions: Temperature of ZINAK Epoxy Zinc Phosphate Primer must be 20°C/68°F or above at the time of mixing. Stir each component separately before blending. Mix three parts by volume of Part A with one part by volume of Part B for three minutes with a low-speed electric drill motor equipped with a mixing paddle.
Application Conditions: Use only where application and curing can proceed at a temperature above: 10°C/50°F. Maximum relative humidity: 80%, preferably 40-60%.The temperature of the surface and that of the paint itself must also be above this limit. The optimal paint temperature for proper mixing, pumping, and spraying is 15-25°C/59-77°F. In confined spaces provide adequate ventilation during application and drying.Application Process:
*Airless Spray: Graco 45:1 or 56:1 or equivalent.
Tip Size: 0.38-0.53 mm.
Thinning: 5-10% by volume with ZINAK Epoxy Thinner.*
*Air Spray: Air cap with E tip and needle. Moisture trap should be used between air supply and
pressure pot.
Thinning: 15-20% by volume with ZINAK Epoxy Thinner.*
*Brush or Roller: Low nap rollers.
Thinning: 15-20% by volume with ZINAK Epoxy Thinner.*
*Amount of thinning affected by temperature conditions.
The occurrence of standing water or droplets on the painted surface immediately after application may result in discoloration.
Re-Coat Interval: 10°C (50°F) Minimum: 7 Hours
20°C (68°F) Minimum: 5 Hours
25°C (77°F) Minimum: 3 Hours
30°C (86°F) Minimum: 2 Hours
Overcoating intervals related to later conditions of exposure: If the maximum overcoating interval is exceeded, roughening of the surface is necessary to ensure intercoat adhesion. All dust from sanding of blast roughening must be removed from the surface prior to the re-coat application. Avoid extra thinning for better result.
Safety Feature: Take precautions to avoid skin and eye contact. Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause eye and skin irritation. If contact occurs, wash immediately and seek medical help. Use safety glasses with side shields and wear protective rubber gloves, face masks etc.
Proper ventilation and protective measures must be provided during applications and drying period to keep solvent vapor concentrations within safe limit.
All work involving the application and use of this product should be performed in compliance with all relevant local and national, Health, Safety & Environmental standers and regulations.
Precautions:
* Away from the source of ignition and fire.
* Keep away from direct sunlight, heat and children.
* Store in well ventilated location.
* Stir well before use.
* The container must be tightly closed when not in use.
Pack Size: 1ltr, 4ltr and 20ltr.
